I had scheduled a different topic to write about on this blog post, but I listened to an inspiring Success Talks podcast this morning, with Brian Tracy, and one thing stuck in my mind: never quit. So I changed my mind about the topic for today.
Never quit is one of the attributes of all successful people, probably the most important one.
Let’s get one thing clear: never quit is not the same as remaining stuck in a failed project. It’s more like having a dream and following it no matter what.
Brian Tracy thinks and expressed during the podcast that we can program our mind to do anything. For instance, he says and I quote from memory, we can program our mind to get up at the same hour every morning without using an alarm clock. And it works, he says, and many successful people do that. Imagine if you program your mind to never quit. All it takes, says Brian, is to say once “I never quit”. And you won’t.
If you use an alarm clock to get up in the morning to go to work, you must be reluctant. Tell you what, this is a week-end, which means you probably don’t use the alarm clock anyway. Try to program your mind to get up in the morning at a certain time (let’s say one hour earlier than the regular time you get up; you can take a nap later if you need to). I’ll try it myself! We’ll have to make sure we get to bed early to get enough sleep (that’s what successful people do anyway). Once we get this step figured out, maybe we can go to bigger things like “never quit”. UPDATE: My first experiment on trying to program my mind to get up at an exact time the next day failed. I actually got up one hour and a half earlier than I wanted to. Which means great because I did a lot in one hour and a half, but not well if we think of the experiment. I’ll keep trying until I master this part.
